The Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origin is a set of principles aimed at educating consumers about the importance of location to winemaking. The Declaration was first signed in Napa Valley, Calif., on July 26, 2005. The founding signatory regions included:

| Jerez | Porto | Walla Walla |
On March 21, 2007, six more renowned wine regions joined in the global effort. The new signatory regions included:
| Chianti Classico | Sonoma County | Victoria |
| Paso Robles | Tokaj | Western Australia |
